Spiritual sponsorship

There is a very special relationship between a sponsor and a spiritual practitioner. Without a sponsor the practitioner has less opportunities to practice and therefore it is more difficult to reach higher spiritual levels. Yet those who have jobs, families or other obligations miss the opportunities to gather pure blessings, purify their karma or other spiritual attainments. This makes the cooperation between the two of them an extraordinary spiritual bond.

Both sponsor and practitioner will receive the same spiritual attainments from the practice or the initiations. When for example a lama is going into a 3 years retreat then both will receive the same spiritual benefits in a way what suits there capacities. Both will receive the extraordinary benefits during this and future lives. They don’t have to share it 50-50%, no both will receive the full 100% benefit.

In the same manner we have the opportunity to sponsor projects that generate positive outcomes and karmic connections for many lifetimes and generations. We don’t have the capacity to do this with our own hands, but we do have te opportunity to create the positive possibilities for many generations if we work together. So no matter our background, religion or culture whenever we generate these kinds of virtues bonds based on pure and harmonious intentions this generates for both sides almost unlimited benefits.

The value of sponsorship

Generations after generations Tibetans are fully aware of these extremely beneficial interdependent connection, therefore spiritual sponsorship is highly appreciated within the Tibetan tradition.

In fact in Western society we have also bonds like this. Our children for example receive education and the total effect of all these educated children is an intelligent and highly developed society. Or imagine somebody is extremely ill and another person is paying for his or her medical care. After the person recovers between the two people will remain an extremely deep heart connection which is felt in the form of deep gratitude.
